The Delta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on February 3, 1954, at Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science, now known as Michigan State University.

These are the pioneers who made Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated the first African American sorority on Michigan State University's campus.
Since inception, the Delta Zeta Chapter has welcomed over 600 young women into the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In addition, the chapter has received several awards from Michigan State University, Michigan Cluster, Regional Conferences, and at National Levels for scholarly achievement. Several members have also served at both Regional and National levels. These Distinguished Delta Zeta past members are Barbara Byrd Roberts, Second International Vice President; Laura Chapman, Secretary; Ursula Phoenix, Member at Large; and Kasey A. Coleman, Second International Vice President. The chapter also hosted the first Undergraduate Roundup in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated history in which the International Undergraduate Committee later voted to have Undergraduate Roundups in all regions.
